Our MCS community sprang into action for our third Giving Day which this year fell on Feb 28 and leap-day, Feb 29.

Once again we have been overwhelmed by the generosity of OWs, parents past and present, staff, and Govenors. A huge thank you to the 371 donors who have raised £133,274 towards bursaries which will support current and future pupils.

On-site there were activities and challenges for pupils to take part in during break and lunchtime. Our mascot, Giving Day Gary, the frog in full Bishop’s regalia, made an appearance all over school across the 36 hours!

To mark the School’s Biodiversity Week pupils foraged around the school grounds then extracted dyes from leaves to colour fabrics. At the Giving Day Hub sustainable crafting options abounded, from origami to quilling, creating wool stars, making leather bracelets and even using a table-top inkle loom to weave bookmarks.

Sports enthusiasts tacked challenges like ‘Leap Far’, ‘Leap High’, and the Triple Leap.

Mr King led a return of the popular Super Monkey Ball Smackdown computer game and other pupils enjoyed having their photo taken against a background of their choice using our green screen.

The ‘Bish Bill’ cupcakes and ‘Bish Pics’ in the William Waynflete frame made a triumphant return.

The MCS Staff Bake Off was once again hotly contested, making it tough for our Catering Team colleagues who did the judging. Congratulations to the winners and well done to everyone who took part.

The Giving Day Pub Quiz in partnership with the Parents’ Association, drew a record crowd. Mr McDonald and Mr Vallance did a terrific job of creating and hosting the quiz and congratulations to ‘The A Team’ who triumphed for the second year running!

True to our ethos of community partnership, this year’s focus was ‘Spring Forward, Spring Clean’.  With great support and enthusiasm from the Pupil’s Charity Committee, we collected over 1,480 household cleaning or personal care items for the Rose Hill Community Larder, surpassing our goal.

Mrs Engin, Rose Hill Community Larder Coordinator expressed her gratitude “On behalf of all our members, I’d like to say a huge thank you for the amazing donation drive for ‘Spring Forward Spring Clean’. A huge amount of effort and energy went into supplying the Larder with this additional support; it was greatly appreciated.”

Thank you to all the parents, pupils and staff who made this initiative such a success.

The final mention must go to the staff for their spirited performance in this year’s homage to Barbie – ‘Give the Night Away’ –  Ken would surely agree, ‘so cool’.

Thank you to all the teaching and support staff who worked so hard to make Giving Day such fun and to our donors who ensure there is always financial support for pupils able to flourish at MCS. If you would like to make a gift to bursaries you can do so via this link.
