While some in our school community find themselves able to support the school in their lifetime, others have chosen to make a lasting commitment by remembering MCS in their will.
We are privileged to have over 100 legators; Old Waynfletes, past and current parents, Governors and friends of the school who have pledged to support MCS’s future through a legacy gift.
“By leaving a legacy you ensure that we are able to continue to offer a life-changing education for generations to come.”
Helen Pike, Master
The Bob Stanier Legacy Society is made up of OWs, parents (past and present), staff, Governors and friends of the school. New members are always welcome.
Should you join, you and your partner or a guest will be invited to the annual Stanier Society Lunch – a real highlight in the MCS calendar – as well as to special school events throughout the year. Members of the Stanier family including patron of the Society, Tom Stanier, Bob’s son, often join us for these events. We will also keep you informed of school news and developments; it is a chance to discover the MCS of today and truly be involved in the life of the school.
If you would like to be invited to join the Society, please fill in this form or discuss with us directly.
Below, three of our legators explain why they chose to remember MCS in their will:
OW 1974
“Making a will gives you choices. I wanted to look back and reflect on the help I had in growing up and setting out in life. My seven years at MCS were my foundation, and I had a lot of fun too. I valued the way MCS at that time (under the Direct Grant system) taught boys from all backgrounds. I want to help MCS in that direction; legacies and bursaries from alumni matter. It gives me pleasure to think that when I have gone I will have done my bit. I also like the way that MCS, as part of this effort, is getting closer to its alumni, and wanted to give my encouragement.
The sum of money doesn’t need to be great – every little bit counts when it comes to building the school’s endowment and supporting bursaries.”
OW 1957
“Both Margaret (my wife) and I ask ourselves from time to time what has shaped us and helped us achieve whatever we have in life. We both came from a humble background but I had the enormous fortune to become a pupil of MCS. As with so many OWs, that influenced my life profoundly. At a personal level, we met, indirectly, through MCS – and we will shortly be celebrating our diamond wedding anniversary! We both want to express our gratitude for the influence that MCS has had on us. It is one of the most human of traits to want to say ‘thank you’. There cannot be a better way than helping your old school strengthen its ability to do for others what it has done for us.”
Retired MCS teacher (2015-22)
“What motivated me to leave a legacy to MCS was my desire to go on helping young people even when I am no longer here. When I joined the school in 2015, I didn’t realise how wonderful it would be at MCS; I expected the kids to be clever, but I didn’t expect how constructive and caring they would be with each other. I started to look at ways to help young people and considered a variety of causes, but it seems that education is the key to helping everything and everyone.
I have taught in a lot of schools and MCS is truly exceptional; there is no better place to put your money. If you want to do the maximum amount of good, give to MCS.”
"I feel a tremendous sense of pride, as an OW, in being part of a community that is taking steps to safeguard the school’s spirit and its economic future. I sincerely hope you will join us and enjoy similar sentiments"
John Leighfield CBE (OW 1957), Bob Stanier Society President
