28 April 1948 – 17 October 2025
The Waynflete Office has been informed of the death of Peter True, aged 77. Peter attended MCS from 1958 to 1966. We send our deepest condolences to Rosemary and Peter’s other friends and family. We are grateful for this obituary provided by his widow Rosemary:
Peter was born in Fulham, the home of his maternal grandmother, and brought up in Wokingham where his father was a veterinary surgeon.
He joined MCS as chorister boarding at the school, and loved choral music his whole life. Peter would tell of swapping food at mealtimes with other boys. He also happily recalled walking in a crocodile under Magdalen Bridge to the tower on May morning and singing on Christmas morning.
Peter left Magdalen to study Music at the Royal Academy of Music but decided a different course obtaining a degree in Sociology in London. He was then accepted onto the National Training Course for Hospital Administration at the Kings Fund London with placements in Kent and Sussex.
Completing his studies, he moved to the Middlesex Hospital Mortimer Street in London, meeting his future wife Rosemary at a staff residence on his 25th birthday. Peter and Rosemary were married in 1975 and moved to North Weald Bassett. Peter was now administrator in charge of Whipps Cross Hospital, where his children John and Anne were born. With many NHS reorganisations, the family moved to Moulton, Northamptonshire in 1983. Peter worked in senior NHS roles, finally retiring in Milton Keynes. On retirement Peter did voluntary work including weekly for over 15 years at the Northampton Volunteering Centre.
Peters love and knowledge of music never left him, listening to and attending concerts often classical works by composers not often performed. He was a friend of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra for many years attending their concerts in London and Northampton. In 2024, he sang in the OW ‘scratch’ choir for choral evensong which he thoroughly enjoyed and brought back many happy memories.
Retirement was filled with music, art and travelling as well as a very hands-on granddad. Peter was a devoted family man and died surrounded by the family he loved.
