At the start of the summer holidays, 48 singers from the Magdalen Sixth Choir and Schola Cantorum travelled to the Czech Republic for a musical tour, bringing together pupils from across the year groups for a week of performances, sightseeing and activities.

Based in Plzeň, the choirs performed in some spectacular settings across the country, including Prague, Švihov Castle, Plasy Monastery and Karlovy Vary. They also sang at Mass in Plzeň Cathedral, despite a rather late night beforehand watching the England football match!
The programme ranged from unaccompanied Renaissance masterpieces to Romantic repertoire, with some pieces accompanied by a string ensemble made up of members of the choir. Our organist, Saralynn, also accompanied the singers throughout the tour, expertly navigating the variety of instruments encountered along the way.
Away from the performances, there was plenty of time for pupils to enjoy the trip together, with swimming, football, quizzes and sightseeing among the activities. With pupils from different year groups taking part, the tour was a lovely opportunity for everyone to spend time together and get to know one another beyond rehearsals and performances.
The tour was a wonderful way to bring another busy year of music at MCS to a close. Thank you to all the pupils and staff who took part and made it such an enjoyable trip.
