We are pleased to be celebrating the “remarkable achievements” of our Fifth Form pupils, whose success in today’s GCSEs reflects not only their hard work and love of learning, but the energy and commitment they have brought to every aspect of school life.
Overall, 58% of all grades were grade 9, 83% of grades were 9-8 and 93% were 9-7.
Over a third of the year group (34 pupils) achieved 10 grades 9-8 – many maintaining their studies while performing on stage or representing the school in competitive sport. 10 pupils were awarded 10 grade 9s, and 15 achieved 9 grade 9s. 9 was also the most common grade awarded to pupils in receipt of bursaries.
Pupils have excelled in a host of subjects this year, with their success in STEM matched by their performance across the breadth of the curriculum. 91% of grades across Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Maths and Computer Science were 8 and above; while 89% of grades in Modern Foreign Languages (French, German, Mandarin and Spanish) were also 8 and above. In Theology, 86% of grades were 9 and in PE, taken at MCS for the first time this year, 75% of pupils secured 8 or above.
"Our Fifth Form pupils threw themselves into their GCSEs with the energy and commitment they bring to every part of school life, and their remarkable achievements in these examinations are matched by the many ways in which they have contributed to and enriched our community beyond the classroom."
Helen Pike, Master
Helen Pike continued: “We look forward to seeing them return, alongside our new pupils, to the Sixth Form in a few weeks’ time. Congratulations to them, and to the teachers and parents who have guided and encouraged them along the way.”
