(19 May 1938 – 5 February 2022)

We have been informed of the death of John Hadfield OW at the age of 83. We extend our condolences to his wife Gina, his children, wider family and friends and we are grateful to his friend Dr Roger Lowman (OW 1957) for this obituary.

John Hadfield was fluent in languages, and his commercial career took him, his wife Gina, and their three children to many countries in Europe, the Middle East, and the Far East. In retirement he came to Bicester, where he continued to head his flourishing translation agency, was active in local church affairs, and was a regular presence at OW functions. During this period his two grandchildren were born. His friends enjoyed his dry wit and quizzical outlook on the world, of which he had seen so much. He was born in Headington on a road whose other border is land now occupied by the JR Hospital, where he died after a short illness. For all his extensive experience of the world, it could be said that in his 83 years he travelled from one side of Sandfield Road to the other.
