Last Friday, seven Old Waynfletes from the Class of 2015 returned to MCS to give a special careers talk to Upper Sixth pupils. For most of the panel, this was their first time back at MCS since leaving. They were particularly excited to see their old teachers and the ‘new’ Sixth Form common room, which opened three years after they left MCS!
Marking ten years since leaving MCS, our OW visitors spoke to pupils about their careers so far and the impact the school has had on their lives. Bringing their experience and expertise in a range of sectors – finance, marketing, higher education, and politics – they provided pupils with an insightful and engaging discussion about life after MCS.
Chairing the event was Hugh Tappin (OW 2015, working as a public affairs manager) who navigated the diverse career paths of each panellist, including any career changes, progression and sector changes.
The panel also included the following (all OW 2015):
After their discussion, pupils were given the opportunity to ask questions to the speakers, including the role of networking, spring weeks at university and getting internships during university.
“The thing that stands out for me most now, looking back, is that MCS is a place where curiosity is encouraged. I think that is a very rare thing in the world, to be somewhere where it is accepted and encouraged to ask questions.”
Will Hardyman, OW 2015 and former Head of School
It was a pleasure to see Charlie, Daisy, Flora, George, Hugh, Nessie, and Will, and we are so grateful for their time. We were also delighted to see Charlie, Daisy and Hugh the following day at the 2025 OW Lunch, where they celebrated their 10-year anniversary with others from the class of 2015.
