Our Lower Sixth theologians visited Magdalen College on a guided tour, kindly conducted by historian Dr Lucy Wooding. They looked at some of the highlights from the College’s and the school’s early days and how they have shaped the school’s theological tradition down the centuries.

Although William Waynflete founded MCS as a humanist school, it was primarily a place of ‘useful and godly knowledge’ and deeply focused on the religious debates of the day. The group looked at how the statues and the chapel decorations reflected the contemporary theological concerns, including those of the Wars of the Roses, the Reformation and Civil War. This set a historical context for their theological studies over the two years of the Sixth Form.
