Badminton

The U14 Badminton side traveled to Guildford to take part in the Regional Finals of the Badminton England Schools Competition. There were 7 schools involved in the Southern Area Finals and the teams were split into two groups.

The team started brightly with a 3-2 win over Glyn School. This was followed by the tightest match of the day against Reading Grammar School which MCS eventually lost 3-2 on a sudden death point. MCS needed to beat Gravesend Grammar to progress to the semi-final. Superb performances from everyone in the team saw a comfortable 4-1 win in this match.

MCS would play Westgate School in the semi-final, who had a talented squad. The MCS team led 2-1 after 3 rubbers with brilliant wins from Jason and Clement but couldn’t quite finish the job and lost 3-2.

The bronze medal was still up for grabs and although the boys were deflated after such a tough semi-final loss, they focussed well and kept their composure to beat The Royal Latin School 3-2. The team would return back to Oxfordshire with a medal and this was a great success for the team, and school, competing at this level for the first time. Well done to Jason, Clement, Ryan  & Josh.
