Athletics

Well done to the Athletics team who were out on the track for the first time this season on Saturday. All teams were present at a full meet at Bromsgrove School. Full results are still to be published but, in the Senior Girls, highlights of the day included Clemmie winning the 1500m, Katie winning the 800m and Kate winning the discus. In the Senior Boys, Roshan won the 110m hurdles and the high jump.

Cricket

Three teams managed to play through the rain against Bloxham at home on Saturday. The 2nd XI made a strong start in the field restricting the opposition to 34 for 2 in the first 10 overs. Bloxham managed to wrestle the initiative in the last 5 overs of their innings and finished with a total of 147. Unfortunately, the run chase never really got going and regular wickets led to the MCS being bowled out for 111.

In contrast, the U15As unleashed an early assault on the Bloxham bowlers with Kalan and Nico scoring 54 & 61 runs respectively. MCS finished with a total of 207 from their 25 overs, a target that was always going to be a big ask. A dominant display in the field saw the opposition bowled out for 68, resulting in a win by 139 runs.

In the U16A game, MCS recovered after losing early wickets in their bid to post a competitive score. This was largely due to Barney’s excellent 74 and some clean striking from Ned, Ben and Adam in the middle order. 184 from 25 overs looked to be a decent score and so it proved. Thomas tore through the top order, picking up 4 wickets in his 5 overs spell and the visitors never recovered. The final wicket was taken in the 20th over, wrapping up a win by 90 runs.

This week sees the U14As take on Abingdon in the County Cup after being forced to abandon the game this week.

Golf

The first match of the golf season took place on Wednesday. The 1st pair of Fin and Will increased their 4-year winning streak to 16 matches. They did so without losing a hole thanks to Will taking an early lead and Fin remaining calm and composed throughout.

The 2nd pair of James and Elliot both made their debuts for the MCS golf team. James came out the blocks shakily but managed to hold it together, hitting some crucial irons shots late in the game. Elliot took control of the match, however, and heading into the last hole the pair needed a par to win. Elliot didn’t disappoint, draining a tricky 6-foot putt and triggering exuberant celebrations as the boys sealed a 2-0 win.

Hockey

It was a tough week for the MCS hockey sides. MCS 1 lost in their first fixture of the season so far against Oxford HC. The mixed side played on Thursday night against a strong Witney side containing a number of their 1st team players. Fabian and Clemmie were the outstanding performers on the evening. Both sides are back in action this week, so we wish them luck.
