Tennis

Wednesday 5th May

The 1st IV boys played Abingdon in the first round of the Glanville Cup National competition. Sadly the weather meant the match had to be abandoned but the match was extremely competitive and resumes this coming Wednesday. MCS are currently one rubber down but fighting to claim the remaining 5.

The 2nd IV boys and 1st IV girls (both teams included 2 pairs) played d’Overbroeck’s on a very wet Milham Ford. Despite the conditions, matches were exceptionally close with MCS claiming 3 out of the first 4 round matches including 3 tie breaks. The match was cut short in the end but not before some fantastic tennis was played.

Saturday 8th May

Saturday fixtures were unfortunately rained off. However, we look forward to the continuation of the Glanville Cup on Wednesday 12th as well as the 1st VIII boys ISL tournament round 2 on Saturday 15th May, alongside fixtures v Bradfield and Warwick.

Cricket

Although the majority of fixtures were lost due to the weather this week, there was still some cricket played. Bradfield were the visitors on Thursday, where a mixed U14B & C side beat Bradfield by 9 wickets. Hugh’s unbeaten 50 and strong support from Jojo and Noah saw the team home for a comfortable victory. Congratulations to Noah on taking his first wicket for the school.

The U15Cs had a tough match against strong opposition. Several of the team were playing in their first game of hard ball cricket and will hopefully gain a lot from the experience.

On Friday the U13 B & C were in action against John Hampden Grammar School A & B teams. Both MCS sides found things hard going, against stronger opposition but showed great resolve in defeat.

We look forward to fixtures against The Dragon for the 2nd & 3rd form on Tuesday, followed by a full block against St Edward’s on Saturday.

Hockey

Well done to the MCS 2 hockey side who beat Hawks C 4-3 on Wednesday. Oliver was awarded player of the match by the scorer of the winning goal, Mr White. They play Banbury this week in the second round of fixtures.
