Over the Easter break, the Senior School Cricket squad travelled to Sri Lanka for a memorable tour combining high-level competition with cultural exploration. The trip was action-packed, filled with sightseeing and exceptional training sessions ahead of the run of fixtures.

Sri Lanka provided an outstanding setting for cricket, with a high standard of play and testing conditions that challenged the squad in all the right ways. Our pupils rose to the occasion superbly, delivering a strong all-round team performance, with wickets shared across the bowling attack and a composed chase resulting in an impressive 8-wicket victory against Bloomfield Academy in 35-degree heat.

The tour was about far more than cricket and alongside winning five of their six fixtures against some incredibly talented and skillful opposition, the group embraced the rich culture of Sri Lanka. This included visits to local temples, opportunities to experience traditional cuisine and time spent exploring the vibrant surroundings. One of the most memorable activities was a visit to a turtle hatchery, where pupils saw first-hand the important conservation work being done to protect local turtle populations and were given the rare opportunity to release 60 newborn turtles into the ocean—an unforgettable and truly remarkable experience.

A standout highlight of the tour was the chance to watch top-level cricket in a country where the sport is such an integral part of daily life, further inspiring the squad. Equally, one of the most valuable aspects of the trip was the opportunity for the pupils to spend extended time together away from their usual routines, strengthening team bonds, building friendships and creating lasting memories both on and off the field.

It was an excellent tour that has left the squad well prepared, highly motivated and full of momentum as they look ahead to the cricket season.
