Further to the news that the Oxford Schools’ Bus Partnership (OSBP), the current home-to-school bus service, will cease to operate at the end of the 2022-23 academic year, we are delighted to announce plans for a new, joint bus partnership with Headington School, operational from September 2023.

The new partnership will ensure that our pupils continue to have access to a safe, reliable and affordable bus network while furthering our mission to become a more sustainable school by reducing the number of journeys made by private vehicles.

We believe that the proximity and size of MCS and Headington will ensure that we can maintain a network of 12 routes whilst minimising the journey times for pupils. Likewise, as both schools run extensive after school co-curricular clubs, activities and sports fixtures, we are exploring the possibility of providing additional, later buses on some routes to allow greater access to these important activities. In parallel, we are investigating the demand for a limited cross-Oxford service for our junior school pupils who are unable to access public transport.

A significant amount of work establishing this exciting new partnership has already been completed; we have collaborated with Oxfordshire County Council and are delighted that the coach operators, Horseman, Heyfordian and Pearces have committed to servicing the routes. MCS and Headington have long standing relationships with all three operators, and we value their high-quality coaches and drivers.

"We welcome schools being proactive in changing their travel arrangements to continue to encourage pupils to use the bus".

Councillor Andrew Gant, Oxfordshire County Council

MCS and Headington are keen to build on the success of the OSBP partnership in order to promote sustainable and safe home-to-school travel. As such, we are committed to investing in this new, joint bus partnership to support our families and protect the environment by minimising the need to travel by car. We look forward to your support.
