Congratulations to the Lower Sixth Politics team on the publication of the inaugural issue of Tipping Point, a new pupil-led politics journal featuring articles, interviews and commentary on a wide range of political issues.

Spearheaded by Lower Sixth pupil Freddie, Tipping Point brings together contributions from across MCS, exploring subjects ranging from international relations and ideology to contemporary culture and democracy.

Articles include Freddie’s piece on the United Nations, Lev’s examination of the AfD and the political situation in Germany, Penny’s exploration of plastic feminism in Barbie, and Henry’s article on the mathematics of the US Senate.

The journal also features contributions from beyond the pupil body. Mr Rohan Edwards, MCS Deputy Head of Education Development, considers the question, ‘Does the emergence of AI represent a threat to democracy?’, while MP Charlie Maynard took part in an interview and Q&A with Freddie, sharing his insights into life and work in Parliament.

“This journal is a wonderful embodiment of the MCS spirit: a testament to Freddie’s initiative and to the intellectual curiosity that defines our community.”

Kitty Wilson, MCS Head of Politics

She added: “It has given students the opportunity to explore their own interests, guided by Freddie’s strong editorial discipline, resulting in a truly impressive piece of work. Drawing contributions from the Lower School through to the Sixth Form, and spanning subjects from international relations to ideology, it reflects both the breadth and depth of thought within the school. We are particularly impressed by Freddie’s initiative in reaching out to Charlie Maynard, and remain deeply grateful for his generosity and support in helping bring this vision to life.”

Well done to Freddie and everyone involved in creating such an engaging and wide-ranging publication. We look forward to seeing how Tipping Point continues to develop following the success of its first edition.
