Eco-Schools Green Flag Award 2026

We are delighted to announce that we have been awarded the Eco-Schools Green Flag with Distinction, recognising a year of environmental action led by pupils and supported by staff across the school.

From Environmental Society campaigns and assemblies to exploring climate change through PSHE, pupils have embraced every opportunity to deepen their understanding of environmental issues in practical and collaborative ways.

One of the highlights this year, was becoming the first school in Oxfordshire to join the Friends of the Thames’ River Guardians programme. Working with the charity, pupils monitored the health of the River Cherwell and contributed valuable data to a national citizen science project, helping to protect one of our local waterways.

Across the school site, pupils have also played an active role in enhancing biodiversity by installing bird feeders and swift nesting boxes, planting for pollinators, caring for our wildlife pond and growing produce in the school allotment. These hands on projects have provided opportunities to learn about sustainability while making a lasting difference to the environment around us.

Pupils have also explored sustainability through a range of events and initiatives. This year, MCS welcomed 18 partner schools to OxCOP, creating a forum for young people to discuss climate challenges and exchange ideas for positive change. Pupils also examined careers in sustainability at our Designing a Sustainable Future conference, celebrated the natural world through the MCS Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition, and explored the environmental impact of consumer choices through discussions on sustainable slow fashion.

The Eco-Schools Green Flag with Distinction reflects the collective efforts of pupils and staff over the past year and their commitment to creating positive environmental change. We look forward to sharing more of their hard work.
