Our annual Medics’ event took place in the penultimate week of Trinity term this year, with a wide range of guest speakers and attendees from MCS and other partner schools across the county.

The event featured presentations and networking opportunities as well as talks from speakers in different stages of their careers in Medicine, such as Professor Maheshi Ramasamy, a consultant in infectious diseases and internal medicine, and Leo Carniaux (OW 2024), a first-year medical student.

Professor Puneet Plaha and Mr Samir Matloob then provided everyone with a fascinating insight into a day in the life of a neurosurgeon before pupils were then invited to take part in Multiple Mini Interviews (MMIs), designed to help them gain a better understanding of the interview process at medical schools.

At the end of the event, Dr Clive Peedell (OW), a consultant clinical oncologist and clinical lead in radiotherapy at James Cook University Hospital delivered the closing talk, addressing the topic of Is a Medical Career Still Worth It?, giving his perspectives both as a doctor and as the parent of a medical school applicant.
