Prizegiving marks the end of another successful year

Our latin motto, still at the heart of our daily philosophy, carries a deep and spiritual meaning. It is an encouragement to flourish and to focus on what matters in life.

After Sports Awards on Thursday, we continued to celebrate the hard work, commitment and achievements of our pupils at Prizegiving – the final and biggest awards ceremony in the school calendar.

We were delighted to welcome Julie Robinson, Chief Executive of the Independent Schools Council (ISC), as our guest speaker. It was an honour to have her join us as we reflected on another exceptional year at MCS and recognised the many ways our pupils have contributed.

Throughout the event, pupils were recognised for their accomplishments across a wide range of subjects, including art, English, languages, science, mathematics, geography and theology, alongside awards for progress and all round achievement. Choristers, musicians, actors and poets were also recognised, reflecting the breadth of skill across the school.

A number of special prizes were presented to pupils who have made an outstanding contribution to MCS. These included awards for leadership, drama, music, literary achievement and service to the wider school community, as well as the Master’s Prize, the School Leadership Prize and the John Lyne Memorial Prize for our Heads of School.

Congratulations to Kevin for winning this year’s Coronation Cup, awarded for the most outstanding achievement of the year. Kevin received the award in recognition of representing the UK at the Balkan Mathematical Olympiad, the International Mathematical Olympiad and the International Linguistics Olympiad in a single year. Chosen by the teaching staff and only revealed at Prizegiving, the Coronation Cup is one of the most highly anticipated awards of the year.

Following Prizegiving, we had a wonderful Commemoration Service for our Upper Sixth leavers at the University Church, another longstanding MCS tradition. We were delighted to welcome The Revd Luke Walton OW 1983, Director of The Pitch, as this year’s speaker, and to mark our Upper Sixth joining the OW community.

Well done to all the award winners, and to all those whose enthusiasm, resilience and commitment have helped make this such a successful year. A fantastic way to reflect on everything that has been accomplished before we look ahead to the opportunities of the year to come.
