On Tuesday, our 3rd Form Geographers swapped the classroom for the great outdoors as they headed to Wendover Woods for an exciting fieldwork adventure.

As part of their Trinity Term studies on weather and climate, the pupils have been exploring the fascinating world of micro-climates, investigating how features in the landscape can influence temperature, humidity, wind speed and direction, as well as the impact of the urban heat island effect.

With a heatwave providing the perfect real-life conditions for investigation, the pupils set out on a carefully planned route through Wendover Woods and the surrounding town. Equipped with their weather measuring tools, plenty of water and a fantastic sense of curiosity, they collected data at 12 different locations, analysing how the environment around them affected the conditions they experienced.

Despite the challenging temperatures, the pupils showed excellent resilience, enthusiasm and teamwork throughout the day. Their hard work has provided valuable insights into how geography can be seen, measured and understood beyond the classroom.

A memorable day of hands-on learning and a brilliant example of geography in action!
