A recent OW has created a successful cookery school in Saigon, Vietnam, catering to the city’s children.
Seamus Gregan (2008) set out to Vietnam in 2013 to teach English, but after answering a Facebook advert became involved in teaching culinary skills too. A keen home chef, he went on to co-found ‘JuniorChef’, the first international cooking school in Vietnam.
Despite the departure of his business partner, the business has grown, now employing 7 cooking teachers and teaching over 200 students each week. JuniorChef is used by the top schools in the country, such as The British International School HCMC, The International School of Ho Chi Minh City, The American School of Ho Chi Minh City and the British Vietnamese International School.
He also founded two catering companies, delivering a range of soups and sandwiches, in 2015.
Speaking to the Waynflete Office, he said: ‘Keeping a private, externally paid club of this nature, doing real cooking with real knives, hot pans and the like, and managing to keep students, parents and the schools coming back for more each term for the past 4 years has been quite the achievement!
‘The past few years have been about consolidation, with my partner leaving, but now the time’s come for expansion. I’ll begin offering classes to adults, and hopefully a recipe column, quite soon.’
