OWs gathered at Magdalen College Chapel on the 5th September for a Private Viewing of the Last Supper, before its return to the Royal Academy later in the month.

Thought to be the work of one of Leonardo da Vinci’s followers in Milan in the early 1500s, it is generally considered to be the best of the contemporary copies of his seminal work, and one of the most reproduced religious paintings of all time.

Guests enjoyed a panel discussion chaired by Professor Martin Kemp (Emeritus Research Professor in History of Art at Oxford University), who was joined by current and former MCS parents, Director of the Ashmolean Dr Alexander Sturgis, Dean of Divinity at Magdalen The Revd Dr Jonathan Arnold, and BBC Arts Editor Will Gompertz. Together they provided a fascinating insight into the origins of the painting, the work of da Vinci, and its religious significance.
