OW John Riggs (1937) celebrated his 100th birthday on Sunday 1st March at home in Essex.
John came to MCS after finishing his choristership at St Pauls, leaving MCS in 1937 to start a career in accountancy interrupted by WW2. He joined the Artists’ Rifles, before joining up full time serving in Egypt, Syria, Lebanon and the Greek Islands. John was at the siege of Tobruk. He ended the war in the Far East serving with the Chindits in Burma. After the war John qualified in accountancy and soon returned to the Far East where he had a successful career, married and had 3 children, and lived in Hong Kong, Japan and Singapore. On retirement he returned to work at St. Pauls Cathedral, was Vice-President of the Burma Star Association and worked extensively for the Royal British Legion.
John has also been a regular supporter of MCS in recent years and, until recently, always one of the first to sign up to the VOW lunch. We wish him many more happy birthdays.
