It has been another action-packed term for local Primary pupils who attend our regular Saturday school programme, ‘The Bridge’ at MCS. In addition to regular Maths and English lessons, these Year 5 pupils have been learning Latin; working on an Engineering challenge to construct the longest, strongest bridge; and learning about the combustion of fuels in a ‘fiery’ session in the Chemistry lab.

Every session also includes sports lessons and this term the children have been able to try badminton, table tennis and Swedish longball. In addition to the usual timetable, we also arranged for the children’s poet, Kate Walmsley, to visit us to deliver an inspirational creative writing workshop; all of the pupils were given a signed copy of Kate’s latest title ‘Cloud Soup’ to enjoy.

Each year the school coordinates and hosts a wide range of partnership projects and events, including academic, cultural and sporting enrichment for local children.

Our Bridge Programme cohort this year is drawn from a wide range of local primary schools, so whilst the workshop took place, we gave parents and siblings the opportunity to stay and enjoy some refreshments and get to know each other a little better.

As Summer School approaches, we are looking forward to welcoming our ‘Bridge’ pupils on site for two full days where we have planned a diverse range of experiences including a trip to explore Oxford’s Botanical Gardens.
