v Winchester

75 students competed in the block fixture v Winchester. 2 x senior sides travelled to Winchester and played in evenly matched fixtures with MCS only just missing out on the wins.

Overall block score: 6-5 win.

 

v St Helen’s – Aberdare Cup

Clemmie won both her singles and doubles with Alice. The match was competitive and the girls including Claire and Katie represented the school fantastically, battling to a team score of a 4-8 loss.

 

U14 Road to Wimbledon

12 U14 players competed in the schools’ round of the National Competition on School Field. The singles matches were played with impressive intensity. The final will be completed during the week between Jono and Josh.

 

U12 and U13 Internal Fixtures

31 U12 and 28 U13 players enjoyed internal fixtures on Milham Ford involving timed matches and a team round-robin tournament. The boys were competitive and hard working. Well done to the C team who won the U13 event, captained by Dennis.

Cricket

Despite the weather’s best efforts, Wednesday saw the welcome return of fixtures against St Benedict’s. The 2nd XI won by 4 wickets and the 3rd XI won by 57 runs – with Jethro scoring a well-played 53 not out.

The 1st XI played Oxford University on Friday evening, ahead of the National T20 competition on Sunday at Bradfield. A disciplined display in the field restricted the visitors to 125. Despite losing a few quick wickets, the team secured a 5 wicket win, with James and Tejas scoring 63 and 32* respectively.

Bradfield, however, proved too strong on the Sunday in the first of two matches played. The team bounced back well with a dominant display in the second match against Churcher’s. James was 4 shy of scoring a century and Sam took 4 wickets in 5 balls, including a hat-trick.

Bromsgrove were the opponents on Saturday for all age groups except the seniors and MCS managed 6 wins from 8 matches.

The U12As won by 8 wickets, bowling their opponents out for 67 and taking just 9 overs to seal victory. While the U12Bs won by 5 wickets – Dylan scoring a half-century before being retired.

The U13As made a great start to the season with a comprehensive 10 wicket win, Gibbons and Harkness scoring 33* and 43* in a chase that lasted all of 9 overs. U13Bs won by 3 wickets after bowling the opposition out for 114.

In the U14s the As won by 3 wickets. Julian, Rayaan and Finn took 2 wickets apiece. Fraser and Boaz saw the team home with 7 overs to spare. The Bs lost by 2 wickets having set Bromsgrove 156 to win.

Finally, the U15s played their part in entertaining matches. The As were set 211 to win from their 30 overs, but were left agonisingly short losing by 5 runs. Jimmy scored 51, along with useful contributions from all of the top 5. In the Bs Xavier scored 43 and Dan took 4 wickets to help them to a 75 run victory.
