Over half term, 15 boys from the Upper Fourth and Fifth Forms took off to France for a five-day study trip in the city of Lyon. The boys learnt about the city’s Roman history as the capital of Gaul, as well as its important role during the Renaissance as a thriving silk weaving city. Lyon is also the birthplace of cinema, which was invented by the Lumière brothers in the 19th century. Visits to the famous ‘traboules’ (passageways originally used by merchants to transport their products) and the stunning Fourvière Basilica proved to be highlights, as was making friends at the zoo! An added bonus was meeting Gervald (OW from 1966-72) at the language school where the boys had their morning lessons.Â
