The Waynflete Office has been informed of the death of Robert Herbertson, aged 83. We are grateful to Robert’s brother Neil for sharing these words about his life:
Robert was an outstanding athlete, winning the mile cup, 880 yards (in under two minutes), 440 yards and the Ladies Plate in his last year at school and he also won the senior cross-country race. He played rugby for the first fifteen when they had an unbeaten season and rowed for the first eight. At Corpus Christi College, Oxford, he played for the University Rugby team many times, although, to his disappointment, he did not actually get a blue.
He moved to South Africa in the late sixties where he lived in Johanesburg and then Cape Town with his family and numerous grandchildren. He died at home in Cape Town at 82 years old.
He was an enthusiatic Old Waynflete and attended several OW dinners and events over the years. I hope some of his classmates will remember him
