We were delighted to welcome Sam Orwin, Principal and Managing Director in the property sector and a former Major in the Scots Guards, for the latest talk in our weekly careers lecture series.

Drawing on experiences from both military service and the world of construction project management, Sam shared how leadership, teamwork, responsibility and accountability have shaped a varied and successful career. He encouraged pupils to view careers as evolving journeys, explaining that while industries and job titles may change, qualities such as resilience, communication, decision-making and teamwork remain valuable throughout working life.

Sam offered an interesting insight into the construction and property sector, discussing the role of a project manager and the wide range of careers available within the industry. He also explored the various routes into the profession, including university degrees, apprenticeships and postgraduate conversion courses.

Sam’s central message was a powerful one: your first career does not have to be your last, and the skills you build today can open doors to many different opportunities in the future.

We are very grateful to Sam for giving his time, sharing his experiences and providing such an inspiring talk.
