Congratulations to everyone who took part in Thursday night’s excellent Music at Magdalen Concert.

The evening started with two excellent performances of pieces by Handel: first up was the Passacaglia from Suite no.7, performed by the Guitar Ensemble; which was followed by the large Wind Ensemble’s rendition of Entrance of the Queen of Sheba. The Clarinet Ensemble then treated us to two contrasting contemporary compositions before an impressive Flute Ensemble piece showcased the many talent flute players in the Sixth Form.

The Percussion Ensemble brought a change of mood with a thoughtful performance of Coldplay’s Viva la vida, before the 85-strong Concert Orchestra took to the stage to give a spirited recital of Nielsen’s Aladdin Oriental Festival March.

The evening was brought to a close by the String Orchestra who provided a glorious rendition of Grieg’s Holberg Suite with solos by Jeremy Feng and Alex Ridley.
