Food

Catering at Magdalen College School is provided by Sodexo who create fresh food from scratch using the finest seasonal produce to provide healthy, tasty and nutritious meals.

This includes:

  • a large selection of salads produced daily for our central salad bar
  • Red Tractor certified British meat and locally sourced vegetables
  • home-made fresh soup and bread every day
  • fresh fruit, homemade yoghurt, cheese and desserts made daily.

Breakfast service:

7.45 am – 8.15 am

For those who arrive early at school, we have porridge, toast, cereals, croissants, fruit juices and cooked breakfasts available to purchase for cash.

Lunch service:

10.55 am – 11.15 am or 1.10 pm – 1.45pm

In our spacious dining hall, pupils are offered a two or three course meal including a hot main dish (from a choice of two meat- or fish-based and one vegetarian dish) with sides, vegetables and full salad bar. Baked potatoes with a range of fillings are also available. Fresh soup made daily is provided and pupils can help themselves to freshly made bread.

Each day there is a choice of hot and cold desserts or pupils can have fruit, yogurt or cheese.

We also offer a packed lunch option at break time for those pupils who have clubs at lunch time but do not want to eat a full lunch early. Packed lunches are not available at lunch time.

Pupils register biometrically for lunch, so that the catering team can monitor service provision. Menus vary on a 3 weekly repeating cycle and change each term.

Sixth Form Café

We have an Aspretto Coffee outlet in the Sixth Form Centre available to the sixth form and staff. Our trained Barista, Tereza, received a score of 100% on her latest audit of standards and makes excellent coffee from freshly roasted and fairly traded beans,  as well as smoothies, iced drinks and the full range of hot drinks. The café also sells paninis, soft drinks, fresh pastries, muffins, flapjacks and the usual selection of crisps and chocolate.

Special Diets

Sodexo are used to catering for pupils with special diets. When your child joins the school, you will be sent a dietary requirements form. The completed form will be checked by Matron and our Catering Manager to ensure we can cater safely and successfully for any special dietary requirements. If there are any concerns, these can be addressed with the Catering Manager who is also able to rely on the support of the Sodexo dietician.
