This year’s Greek play, a spellbinding retelling of the Sophocles classic Aias, heralds an exciting start to the MCS 2026 drama season.

A gritty modern production, Aias explores the fallout of the Trojan War through a contemporary lens. It presents a visceral story about masculinity, honour and the terrible cost of living up to an ideal. When the great warrior Achilles dies, his armour is meant to pass to the soldier who deserves it most. Aias is sure it will be his. Instead, it is given to Odysseus, leaving Aias to confront the humiliation, rage and self-doubt that follow when a man who has built his entire identity around strength suddenly feels he is no longer enough.

With a powerful plot, striking set and compelling performances, the cast and crew have worked exceptionally hard to pull off such a complex production in little more than a month.

Though written in a world far removed from today’s, the play and its themes of identity, belonging and self-worth resonate powerfully. At its heart, Aias asks timeless questions about how we define success, cope with failure and find value in ourselves when recognition is denied.

A bold and ambitious production, Aias sets the stage for another exciting year of drama at MCS. Congratulations to everyone involved!
