Our Third Form hockey players enjoyed a terrific half-term trip to Amsterdam, with plenty of opportunities to hone their skills, strengthen team bonds and experience one of Europe’s great hockey cities.

Their first taste of Dutch hockey, a sport in which the Netherlands excels on the world stage, came at a packed Hoofdklasse fixture between Schaerweijde and AH&BC Amsterdam. England goalkeeper Ollie Payne kept a clean sheet as Amsterdam secured a dominant 8–0 victory.
The visit provided an inspiring introduction ahead of the team’s own matches, with MCS playing four fixtures against local clubs MHC Houten and MHC Leusden. Each game was competitive, challenging and played in excellent spirit.
Alongside match play, the pupils took part in self-led training sessions at some of the city’s outstanding facilities and benefited from a professional coaching session at HC Hilversum. Combined, these experiences offered an excellent opportunity to sharpen their skills.
Away from the pitch, the team also enjoyed exploring the city, with a traditional cheese-and-clogs tour proving a particular highlight.

A fantastic few days of hockey, teamwork and adventure in one of the sport’s great cities.
