We are excited to be joining the Thames Catchment River Guardians Network, a project led by Friends of the Thames which aims to protect, monitor, and restore the entire Thames river system.
A key aim of the project is to inspire communities to take an active role in caring for their local waterways. With the River Cherwell, a major tributary to the Thames, running through our grounds and used regularly by our rowers, we are keen to play our part.

Friends of the River Director Paul Powlesland said of the project:
“We believe the Thames belongs to everyone—and that safeguarding it requires all of us. Our work is built on collaboration, and we actively partner with charities, NGOs, community groups, schools, scientists, and individuals who share our passion for the river. Whether you’re a campaigner, swimmer, teacher, activist, or concerned resident, there’s a place for you in our growing movement.”
We are thrilled that pupils and staff at MCS will now be part of this growing network, joining existing guardians across the Thames catchment. By taking part, our pupils will help champion cleaner, safer waters and contribute to a coordinated movement to protect our environment.
We look forward to seeing the impact of our pupils’ efforts and sharing updates from our River Guardians in action!
