Darcy (Lower Sixth) competed in the Budapest Cup in November 2021, fencing for Great Britain in the Cadet U17 women’s foil category. Very much enjoying the international competition, it was thrilling for her to fence foilists from around the world and to experience opposition of the highest order.
Darcy fenced well, with her team beating Romania to place in the top 32, ahead of other teams from Russia, Hungary and the USA. In the individual competition, Darcy won two of her bouts (with a narrow miss of 5-4 in the third bout) taking her into the second round of the competition. She was eliminated by an extremely good fencer from Greece, but came away happy with her performance and ready to work hard for the next competition.
In March 2022, Darcy was in action again. Last Sunday, she took Gold in U18 women’s sabre, and Silver in epee in the Southern Region British Youth Championship qualifiers, earning her a place at the national championships on 1-2 May. The foil qualifiers are being held on 27 March.
Yesterday, Darcy represented MCS at the Public Schools Fencing Championship in London, taking the Bronze medal in U18 Women’s Foil. She had a close semi-final, losing 15-14 to a top GBR fencer, and almost making it into the final. It was an intense day, with 41 fencers in this category and a high level of competition. Congratulations to Darcy on this great achievement.
