This term has been as busy as ever at Rose Hill Community Larder, with many in the school community getting involved through volunteering. This includes a new cohort of Lower Sixth Community Service Organisation (CSO) pupils, who joined us at the Larder this Michaelmas term. Terrifically enthusiastic, hardworking and helpful, they have shown great initiative, engaging and interacting with our members.

During this term the Larder team also began working with locality coordinators at Oxford City Council Rose Hill Hub and have initiated contact with other local agencies who provide help and support to residents in OX4. This has involved creating advice pop-ups with Healthwatch Oxfordshire, Victim First Specialist Support and Peeple (supporting parents with children’s learning). As well as benefitting members, the Sixth Form CSO volunteers have learned about social prescribing in the community.

In October, we visited OW Richard Kennell and SOFEA (South Oxfordshire Food and Education Alliance)  in Didcot – to see the warehouse team in action and learn about all the work the education team is doing with young people and asylum seekers.

Later in the month, the CSO Larder team was able to offer over 60 ‘Harvest Breakfastival’ bags to our members, thanks to Junior School pupils who kindly donated various breakfast items. They also designed some amazing colourful tags for the bags too!

The month of course finished in the seasonal way, with some spooky pumpkin decorating and treat gifting at Halloween! In the run-up to Christmas, a fantastic selection of books, board games and puzzles donated by MCS parents were offered to members.

To round off the year, the Larder held a Community Christmas Event, with gift-giving, MCS carol singers and plenty of mulled apple juice and mince pies! Everyone received chocolates and a 2022 Recipe Calendar, designed by the Larder Coordinator and pupils, with ideas for using typical Larder produce.

What a fantastic term! Thank you to everyone involved.
