Performance & Participation

MCS’s sports programme has two specific aims, which work alongside each other – Performance and Participation.

The Performance side of the programme is designed to promote excellence and encourage success within our competitive sides. Recent team successes include winning the National Schools Hockey Championships (2025), after four consecutive finals appearance, as well as the County Cup for U12 cricket (2025), with the U14 team also making it to the finals. In May 2024, MCS was awarded the Oxfordshire LTA Tennis Award for School of the Year. We also support individual success, working alongside pupils who have represented county, regional and national teams, showing the depth of talent throughout the school.

The Participation aim is to ensure that there are as many people playing sport as possible and that the experience is fun, enjoyable and inclusive.  In a typical year some 500 fixtures are played, with around 93% of pupils representing the school in competitive matches.  We look to develop a life-long love of sport where pupils carry on playing at university and beyond.
