Structure of MCS Sport

There are a broad range of sports available at MCS, which include our Focus Sports. The Focus Sports are where we place the majority of our coaching expertise, as well as playing the greatest number of fixtures. These sports are:

Boys – Rugby, Hockey, Cricket and Tennis

Girls – Hockey, Netball, Tennis and Athletics

The Focus Sports have a presence over all three terms, with one term reserved for competition. They run a full fixture programme of both midweek and weekend fixtures. MCS aims to field Senior 1st – 3rd teams, U16A - B, U15A – C, and U14, U13 and U12 all fielding A - D sides.

Other games options include athletics, badminton, basketball, climbing, cross country, football, golf, gym, rounders, rowing, sailing and squash. There also regular fixtures in these sports, to provide opportunity for pupils to represent the school.

Every pupil has two timetabled games sessions per week with additional after-school practices for those involved in competitive squads.

All Heads of Sport are asked to design their programme with two specific aims – Performance and Participation. The Performance side of the programme is designed to promote excellence and encourage success within our competitive sides. The Participation aim is to ensure that there are as many people playing sport as possible and that the experience is both fun and enjoyable.

At MCS there is a sporting option for everyone and we aim to support every pupil in finding the sport for them and helping them make the most of their ability.

Advanced Level Provision

We are keen to support our most talented sportsmen and women in achieving their goals and fulfilling their potential. This includes scholarships, mentoring and provision of high quality opportunities within school and outside school.

Existing partnerships with Sussex CCC, Wasps Rugby and Premier League coaches within our hockey staff demonstrate the quality of provision that is available.

Sport scholarships are available at 13+ and 16+. The scholarships are supplemented with a mentoring scheme and specific access to strength and conditioning support. Ed Dupee oversees all our sports scholars as well as the mentoring programme.
