The floods on School Field (or should it be School Lake?) are finally receding as pupils and staff alike have welcomed the arrival of half term.

This week we bring you news of three distinct events to which you are warmly invited, and hope that Pancake Day sees you enjoying a bit of relaxation.

How Resilient is the Creative Industry? (virtual event)

Thursday 11 March, 1-2pm

OWs Jim Hawker (1992) and John Caird (1966) have assembled a multifarious panel of creatives at the forefront of various industries. Together, they will tackle the issues that the sector has faced since the pandemic, including:

  • What will the arts sector look like by the end of 2021?
  • How has governmental response differed internationally?
  • What will be the impact on young talent?
  • How are the likes of Netflix and Amazon supporting the industry?
  • Will we lose our creative soft power?
  • Is now the time for corporates to step up?

Click here to read about our varied, talented panellists – and to register your interest.

This event is free and open to all – no MCS connection required.  We are pleased to offer this in partnership with Oxford Festival of the Arts.

PA Virtual Wine Tasting

The MCS Parents’ Association warmly invites you to a virtual wine tasting with Grape Minds in Summertown, Friday 26 February.

This event will take place via – what else? – Zoom, and will offer the chance to sample two delicious wines whilst learning about their grape varieties and provenance.

Wines are available to pick up from Grape Minds, or for delivery. Please sign up with Graeme or Michael on 01865 661749 by 19 February, to allow time for delivery.

Further information on Zoom joining details and optional cheese pairings will be available to those who sign up.

PA Run – Oxford Town and Gown

With any luck, Sunday 27th June 2021 will see the MCS community get together to run the Oxford Town and Gown 10k, fundraising for the Mustardseed School in Uganda.

The Master was the first team member to get involved and since then, many others have joined.  All running abilities encouraged to join, with virtual training support from Mr Awcock as needed!

To get involved sign up via the Town and Gown website:

  • Select ‘Register to run’ and choose 10k.
  • Select your entry type(s) and then checkout.
  • Complete your details.
  • Uncheck the box ‘Please create my fundraising page automatically, I would like a fundraising page’ in the Fundraising section.
  • Enter ‘MCSPA10K’ in the ‘Join an existing group’ field (password = Cowley_1480).

Please email secretarymcspa@gmail.com so the PA is aware you are running.

Happy training!

The Bridge – update your details

The Bridge 2021 will shortly be due for publication!

If you need to notify us of a new address or would like to change your Bridge preferences, please do so as part of our OW Keeping in Touch survey.

And Finally ….

The Name’s Bond

Were you at the Parents’ Association James Bond-themed ball in 2018? We are thrilled to share that Jason, who won the award for best costume that night, has at last completed his prize jigsaw puzzle during lockdown!

Pancake Day

Looking for some pancake-topping inspiration this evening?

You can’t go wrong with the classic lemon and sugar.  For those preferring savoury – ham, cheese, or vegetables such as spinach, mushrooms or tomatoes would fit the bill. Or if you have a sweet tooth – fruit, Nutella, peanut butter, jam, and cream make great toppings.

Connect with MCS and OWs
We hope that our MCS community is keeping well in these challenging circumstances.  It is again our privilege to keep people connected during this time, and to bring you news from MCS.

If there is any way we can help, do let us know.

A full run-down of Michaelmas school news can be found in the school newsletter available here.

Don’t forget to follow us on social media!
It provides a great opportunity for OWs to connect and share, and we regularly post news and updates about the school. Click below to find us.
