We were notified in May 2018 by fellow OW Ewart Beardshaw (1956) of Derek’s death. Derek’s wife sent us the following obituary.

Derek Hubert Grimsley (born 21 January 1939) joined Magdalen School in Oxford on a scholarship in 1950 and remained there until 1956. He studied at Harper Adams Agricultural College in Shropshire and had a very successful career working for Vitamins Ltd, Silcocks Advisory Department and Unilever UK.

Derek’s family roots were in Oxford where he was born, but he lived for 44 happy years in Gloucestershire. His love of Oxford was passed to his grandsons, and he was delighted when they decided to study in Oxford. Derek fought cancer for nine years but had a good quality of life in between the treatments. He finally gave up the fight and died peacefully at home on 7 April 2018.

Derek leaves behind his wife, daughter who lives in Oxford, son, who carries on managing a Christmas tree plantation which Derek started in 1979, and three grandsons.
