The Waynflete Office has been informed of the death of Barry Randle, aged 83. We are grateful to his brother Mark (OW 1959) for providing these words about Barry’s life:
Barry spent his early years in Bray-on-Thames and was educated at Magdalen College School, Oxford. He later joined the Royal Navy and served as a helicopter pilot in the Fleet Air Arm. He was awarded a medal from the German navy for rescuing a crew from a sinking ship.
After his naval service, Barry worked for Towry Law in Windsor. He subsequently married and moved with his wife to Manila in the Philippines, where he spent the later part of his life.
He regularly returned to England where he had a property near the river Thames and enjoyed tennis and bridge for many years. Barry also often visited his family in Somerset where his family owned a holiday business that gave him the opportunity to assist in many ways where his talents were useful – computer skills, repairs to the beach steps or accompanying a guest to the local station. He greatly enjoyed both classical and popular music, travelling to London to see many musicals as well as supporting local societies.
Barry is succeeded by his wife Cora and family in Manila. His presence will be sadly missed by both the families in England and the Philippines.
