For this term’s Sixth Form play, the Drama Department staged an ambitious production of George’s Orwell’s classic novel 1984.

Directed by Ms Hildick-Smith, this fresh adaptation was a chilling re-telling of Winston Smith’s well-known journey, as he challenges the Party and the ever-watchful Big Brother. Clever stage direction and the closeness of the Novello helped deliver the oppressive atmosphere of the novel, while intense performances highlighted both the tension of the plot and the depth of the characters’ struggles.

After many months of preparation, the team succeeded in bringing Orwell’s dystopian world vividly to life, and created an immersive experience and performance of real impact.
