Last Friday, J2 enjoyed an exciting and educational trip to Oxford Castle. As part of their curriculum this term, the boys have been exploring the fascinating history of Oxford, and the visit provided a perfect opportunity to bring their classroom learning to life.
The day began with a tour of the castle grounds. The boys climbed the ancient mound and were treated to panoramic views over the city of Oxford; a brilliant way to start the day and set the scene for what was to come.
The tour continued inside the castle itself, where the boys explored the central tower, descended into the atmospheric crypt, and even had a chance to step inside some of the former prison cells. Each part of the tour offered a glimpse into the castle’s rich and varied history, sparking plenty of questions and discussion.
After lunch, the boys took part in a hands-on workshop focused on crime and punishment through the ages. They examined a range of historical resources and worked in groups to complete a series of tasks. It was a brilliant way to deepen their understanding of the topic and to reflect on how justice has evolved over time.
After the trip, Samir (J2A) said: “At Oxford Castle we had great fun looking at crimes and punishment. Our guide took us all around the remains of the Castle. The walls around the Castle were over three metres wide! In one of the rooms someone jump scared us! It was a trip full of joy.”
"I loved climbing up the stairs of the tower, the view from the top was amazing."
Arnold (J2B)
Arnold (J2B) said: “I really enjoyed climbing up the Castle Mound. Then we went into the crypts which were quite scary. When we went into the cells, we looked at the differences between a normal person’s cell to a rich person’s cell. I loved climbing up the stairs of the Tower, the view from the top was amazing.”
Many thanks to Mrs Bibby for organising such a memorable trip for J2. The boys returned to school buzzing with excitement – and a few stories to tell their families!
