Learning was brought to life through hands-on experience for all 68 of the 5th Form Geography students who visited Wendover Woods, the Forestry England site in the beautiful landscape of the Chilterns. They studied the functioning and management of deciduous woodland ecosystems. The day included measuring the biomass of different aspects of the woodland in order to conduct a real-life Gersmehl model, taking soil cores to examine the different layers, and evaluating the various approaches being used to manage human activity within the woodland.
