Last week was full of excitement as pupils across the school took part in challenges for MCS Giving Day 2026. Taking place on 11 and 12 March, Giving Day celebrates the school’s proud tradition of offering an outstanding education to a broad and diverse range of pupils, and invites the community to join together in support of bursaries.

Pupils took part in a series of challenges to unlock match funding including a Colour Run, a Chapel hymn decibel challenge, a library book recommendation challenge and a House Rowing challenge.

Junior School Colour Run

Junior School Colour Run

Our Junior School pupils were thrilled to be part of the Colour Run across School Field, where they were showered with coloured powder en route. We were delighted the Master Helen Pike and Tim Skipwith were among the staff taking part!

Additionally, pupils throughout Senior School took part in the decibel challenge as part of Friday’s Chapel service, with their sound level recorded on a clever decibel meter built by the Physics Department. Tasked with singing the hymn ‘I Cannot Tell’ as loud as possible, pupils reached over 60 decibels by the final verse. Challenges continued between school houses, with a library book recommendation challenge (in which 571 pupils recommended 1,833 books to their fellow MCS pupils!) and a 1,480m rowing challenge (in which 359 pupils rowed the equivalent of 330 miles!). Across these challenges, Maltby emerged victorious with the most participation.

Pupil participation in these challenges unlocked £4,000 for bursaries thanks to the generosity of our match funding donors!

Bursaries remain an enduring part of the school’s mission to provide an outstanding education to pupils who could thrive at MCS, regardless of their family’s financial situation. Donations to bursaries ensure that the school continues to be defined by talent and potential rather than by financial circumstance.
