Magdalen College School encourages pupils, staff and visitors to travel safely, actively and as sustainably as possible.
The vast majority of our community travels to school on foot or by bike, by public transport or via our subsidised bus service. We have cycle bays for about 300 bikes in seven locations across our site.
86% – 91% of all travel to school is made by non-car modes. The compares well to other schools: the National Travel Survey data shows average travel to school (5-16 year-olds) by non-car modes is 63%.
Our subsidised bus service – offered in partnership with Headington Rye Oxford – provides safe and reliable travel along 12 routes across Oxfordshire, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Gloucestershire; with many stops within inner-Oxford.
The service is supported by Oxford Bus Company, which provides our day-to-day operational support, as well an online booking portal. For more information and to book tickets please click here:
Our operators use high specification vehicles – amongst the cleanest on the road today.
Magdalen College School is in the centre of Oxford and is easily reached by public transport. Details of the many bus routes that pass the school can be found at the Oxford Bus Company. For other bus services visit the Oxford Tube and Stagecoach websites. The Trainline website is helpful in researching journeys on public transport, both within the city and further afield.
Pupils can also travel to school by train. Oxford railway station is a 20-30 minute walk from MCS and there are frequent bus services from the station to nearby St Clements (main bus routes: 400, 8). Further details on rail travel can be obtained from National Rail Enquiries.
Coach and rail travel information is also available on the Trainline app, which provides real-time travel info on the go and tickets to purchase.
Oxford has many cycle lanes and CycleStreets provides an online interactive map that pupils and visitors can use to plan their journeys by bike.
