We are delighted to celebrate some recent musical successes by our pupils, from concerto performances to festival cup wins.

Lower Sixth pupil Hailey gave a truly impressive performance of the third movement of Séjourné’s Marimba Concerto as part of the Oxfordshire Junior Concerto Festival Concert. Hailey successfully made it through the audition and semi-final round, judged by a panel from the Oxford Philharmonic Orchestra, before being selected to perform with the Oxfordshire County Youth Orchestra. It was a fantastic occasion, and a pleasure to see so many MCS musicians performing together in the orchestra. Our congratulations to Hailey on this remarkable achievement.

In addition, a number of our current pupils took part in the recent Oxford Music Festival, demonstrating excellence across solo, ensemble, and composition categories. Sam and Shuen were both awarded “Outstanding” in their classes. The REM Piano Trio (Raymond, Evan, and Matthew) won the Chamber Ensemble Class and received the Gordon Woodward Memorial Cup. Raymond also won the String Competitive Solo Class and was awarded the Rohan de Saram Cup, while Matthew secured the Composition Class for the second consecutive year, taking home the Mike Gotch Young Composer’s Cup once again.

It is wonderful to see our musicians do so well across solo, ensemble, and composition classes, reflecting their skill, focus, and love of music. Well done to all of them for their achievements.
