On Friday, Senior School pupils took part in our annual sponsored walk, bringing this year’s Founders’ Day celebrations to a close while raising money for bursaries at Mustardseed Junior School, our partner school in Uganda.

Pupils and staff set off from the Senior School site to take on either a 7.12-mile or 11-mile route through Oxford. Along the way, they passed some of the city’s most beautiful landscapes and landmarks, including Christ Church Meadow, the River Thames, Port Meadow, University Parks, Mesopotamia and the grounds of Magdalen College. Water bottles, snacks and sun protection helped everyone stay comfortable throughout the warm day.
Throughout the walk, pupils were supported by MCS staff and checked in at designated points along the route. Regular water and rest stops helped everyone stay hydrated, while Upper Fourth and Lower Sixth pupils enjoyed a well-earned lunch break on Port Meadow before continuing their journey.

Fundraising from MCS has already made a lasting impact at Mustardseed. One particularly meaningful project has been the creation of the Waynflete Field, where pupils now play sport, providing a tangible reminder of the difference the MCS community can make.
Our Junior School pupils also embraced the spirit of Founders’ Day earlier in the week, raising more than £1,000 including Gift Aid so far. Their enthusiasm and generosity helped set the tone for a wonderful week of fundraising across the whole school community.
As of today, the Senior School Founders’ Day appeal has raised £3,491 including Gift Aid through Superkind. Donations remain open until Friday, with pupils still able to hand in sponsorship money and supporters able to contribute online.
Adding to the impact of this year’s fundraising, every pound raised will be generously matched by Sir Vernon Ellis (OW 1966), helping to extend opportunities for pupils at Mustardseed even further.
A huge thank you to all pupils, staff, parents and supporters who took part, donated and helped make this year’s Founders’ Day such a success. Every step taken and every pound raised will help support educational opportunities for young people in Uganda.
