We are enormously proud of Upper Sixth pupil Vedant who has received an offer to study Engineering at Columbia University this autumn.

Vedant is one of a growing number of MCS pupils to receive offers from Ivy League universities in recent years, with some 12 OWs currently studying in the United States. His exceptional achievement follows many months, and indeed years, of preparation, for both SATs and for his rowing to make his erg-time competitive.

Throughout the process, Vedant was supported by our Director of Higher Education and the Sixth Form Team, who have considerable experience in guiding pupils to the right courses and institutions for them – both in the UK and overseas.

Peter McDonald, Director of Higher Education, said: “Securing an offer from Columbia is an outstanding achievement. An Ivy League institution consistently ranked among the world’s leading universities, it is renowned for its academic rigour and global outlook, and has a highly competitive admissions process. We are excited to see what the future holds for Vedant and wish him every success as he prepares for this next stage, alongside all our Upper Sixth pupils.”

Vedant said: “I am grateful for the opportunity to attend an institution like Columbia. I wouldn’t be where I am today without the constant support of my parents; my coach, Jimmy at Hinksey Sculling School; and Mr McDonald, who has advised and supported me through the application process. I feel incredibly fortunate for all the people who have invested their time in me.”
