It has been an exciting and enriching term for our Germanists, with a series of cultural and linguistic experiences bringing the language to life beyond the classroom.

Oktoberfest Celebration

The term began with a vibrant celebration of Oktoberfest on 3rd October, where the Sixth Form gathered to enjoy traditional German festivities. The event offered an authentic taste of Bavarian culture, complete with themed activities and plenty of good cheer.

Half-Term Trip to Bonn

During the half-term break, pupils from U4th and 5th Form embarked on a memorable trip to Bonn. Highlights included an exhilarating soapbox race, a visit to Beethoven’s birthplace at the Beethovenhaus, and an exploration of modern German history at the Haus der deutschen Geschichte. The trip provided a wonderful opportunity to deepen cultural understanding and practise language skills in real-world settings.

Goethe-Institut Visit

On 4th December, our Lower Fourth Germanists enjoyed a day trip to the Goethe-Institut in London. The programme featured an engaging library hunt and a dynamic German lesson focused on music, offering pupils a chance to experience language learning in a specialist environment.

These activities have not only strengthened linguistic competence but also fostered an appreciation of German culture among our pupils. We look forward to more exciting opportunities in the Hilary term.
