For over five decades, our Community Service Organisation has been at the heart of our commitment to the communities of East Oxford, of which we are a part.
The programme sees Lower Sixth pupils give one afternoon each week to a community placement – culminating in some 7500 volunteering hours each year.
From mentoring local primary pupils in science, literacy and maths; to teaching musical instruments; to singing and staging performances in care homes, placements are as varied as they are rewarding. Pupils enjoy the opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the world around them, as well as the chance to develop communication, leadership and confidence.
Many pupils continue their connections long after their placement concludes and some continue to develop their passion for service into university and beyond.
“Organising sports clubs at a local school has given me valuable experience in leadership and opportunities to plan and deliver projects. It’s helped me feel ready to step into new situations and has really boosted my confidence.”
