Welcome

MCS enjoys an enviable academic reputation, with perennially outstanding results at GCSE – but the Senior School is about so much more than excelling academically. Exceptional pastoral care, and a vast array of clubs and activities, ensure the welfare and flourishing of every pupil. And at the end of their time in the Senior School, pupils have developed into well-rounded and grounded individuals ready for the challenges of Sixth Form, Higher Education and the world beyond.

While the school is broadly divided into the Junior School, Senior School, and Sixth Form, within the Senior School, we also distinguish between the Lower School (Second and Third Form – years 7 and 8) and Middle School (Lower and Upper Fourth, and Fifth Form – years 9, 10 and 11).

"MCS has totally transformed his life. He is surrounded by teachers and pupils who love learning as much as him. He is consistently inspired, stretched and stimulated. He feels seen, understood and happy."

Head of Lower School
Rob Hemingway

We welcome pupils from a wide range of schools, and wherever they join from, there is a home for everyone here. We structure the first weeks carefully, pairing pupils with a buddy, to help them find their niche. Lower School tutors are experienced in supporting pupils through the transition to secondary education and tutor groups become tight-knit. Over time, pupils feel confident to expand their network, taking part in our wide extra-curricular programme and House events to form new friendships and lasting memories along the way. Academically, this is a time to settle into the MCS environment, growing more confident with the pace and challenge throughout Second and Third Form, to make the step to Middle School, and GCSEs, with ease. The Lower School mantra is very much that pupils are happy and successful, and in that order.

Head of Middle School
Tim Cooper

With foundations laid in the Lower School, pupils are ready to take on a more demanding curriculum in the Middle School. Academically, pupils continue to enjoy breadth, while beginning to identify the subjects they most enjoy and wish to pursue at GCSE. Our experienced tutor and teaching teams provide substantial support and advice to pupils and their parents as they their make choices, and our outstanding results are testimony to the quality of teaching and learning we offer through these years. Alongside their academic studies, all pupils are encouraged to keep up a wide range of extra-curricular pursuits, whether musical, dramatic or sporting. All pupils continue with timetabled Games lessons. Pastorally, our tailored programme encourages pupils to develop into confident, respectful and emotionally mature young adults.
