The MCS pastoral system is designed to ensure the welfare and happiness of every MCS pupil.
The pastoral system is based on houses. There are six houses, and each house is drawn from a different part of the school's catchment area. Pupils see their Tutor or Housemaster at least two times a day. The whole school meets once each day in Chapel, and each pupil can access the Master at least once each day without appointment. The day is bespoke in order to maximise the contribution which home can make in the learning process. Thus, although pupils regularly stay late after school, there is no Saturday morning school or evening prep: you go home when the day you want has ended.
In addition to houses, every MCS pupil is a member of a year group, and of a section of the school. There are three sections in all: Lower School (Second and Third Forms - Years 7 and 8), Middle School (Lower Fourth, Upper Fourth and Fifth Forms - Years 9 - 11), and Sixth Forms (Years 12 and 13). Each section has a Head of Section, a senior member of staff entrusted with overall responsibility for the pastoral welfare of those in his or her section.
In addition to the school's houses and sections there is also a School Medical Officer and Counsellor. The school Chaplain and Matron also have pastoral roles of particular significance.
